The Berg Fashion Library includes a vast image bank of clothing from all periods of history, providing a rich source of inspiration and information to designers, scholars and students alike. The Explore by Time feature allows subscribers to access images by time period, as well as through traditional search and browse.

As in these examples, subscribers can drag the slider or click on a point in time on the timeline – in this case the 1940s-1960s. The Berg Fashion Library returns images from that period, among them a beautiful Hardy Amies evening dress and an ostrich feather evening gown designed by Pierre Balmain. The area the dress comes from lights up on the map. The subscriber can then view alternative images of the same dress, and click through for more information about the designer, image source, materials, textile techniques, where the piece was made and who it was created for.
